Mayor Ben Morris
Defending Our Right to Bear Arms

No other candidate for U.S. Congress has the breadth of experience involving the 2nd Amendment and the right to use a firearm to protect life and liberty that Ben Morris does. His passion and commitment to protecting our gun owners’ rights is rooted in deep, lifelong experiences that have cemented the core of his beliefs.

As a Federal Agent with the DEA for 13 years, Agent Morris went to work every day with a weapon as his main defense against the very criminals he sought to bring to justice.  Depending upon his concealed side arm while on undercover missions gave him an appreciation for safety that gun owners can appreciate in times of need. As a Special Agent, Ben Morris, spent countless hours of training learning the in-and-outs of gun safety, procedures and accuracy.  Agent Morris also received rigorous sharpshooter training and was qualified as a DEA sniper and firearms instructor.

As an U.S. Army officer, retiring with the rank of full Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve, Ben Morris maintained his proficiency in firing and handling small arms - earning the Expert Marksman Badge. Colonel Morris before retiring was called to service in multiple countries including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt, Somalia, Europe and Panama. In addition, Colonel Morris was a graduate of a defense language institute where he studied Arabic. He has also studied Mandarin Chinese and German.

As Police Chief for the city of Slidell for twelve years, Ben Morris created the law enforcement POST Police training academy for his officers and later went on to open an intergovernmental weapons training facility to Law Enforcement and other agencies in the region.

As Mayor of Slidell, Louisiana Ben Morris has been an ardent fighter of government beaureacracy and individual liberty. During Ben Morris’ watch, the eye wall of Hurricane Katrina demolished his city. Ben locked the town down and protected homeowner’s rights to protect their property using a legal firearms. His motto “You loot… We shoot” become a rallying cry for local homeowners stranded without the effective aid/protection of their state and national government.

Unlike other elected officials during the storm – Mayor Ben Morris personally and publicly advocated citizens using their own weapons to protect their homes and property.
As a civilian, Ben Morris is a military firearms collector and personally lost much of his collection to the 8ft storm surge that inundated his home. Over the past two years, many weekends and evenings have been spent restoring his collection of antique weapons and rebuilding by hand his gun cabinet.

Ben is also a prolific outdoorsman where he uses rifles and shotguns to hunt for deer, pigs, and ducks. His son, Patrick Morris, is a licensed boat Captain, fishing and hunting guide that hosts airboat guided hunting and fishing trips.

Ben Morris has firsthand, real life experience – no other candidate knows the value of a firearms in the hand of law-abiding citizens than Ben Morris. Throughout his career Ben Morris has relied on firearms to protect life and liberty and he fully supports protecting the 2nd Amendment.

About Ben Morris

Ben Morris was first elected Mayor of Slidell in 2002 when he won an impressive outright primary victory. Most recently the Mayor was re-elected in 2006, winning over 80% of the vote. Prior to serving as Mayor, Ben Morris served three terms as Slidell’s Chief of Police.

Morris is the most conservative candidate for Congress in the upcoming primary election to be held on March 8th. 57% of the registered voters in the 1st District reside on the Northshore, with Slidell being the largest municipality on the Northshore.

According to a new poll, conducted by Dr. Verne Kennedy of MRI, Slidell Mayor Ben Morris and his opponent, State Senator Steve Scalise, are well ahead of other competitors and likely to face each other in a runoff.

The poll conducted January 8th and 9th is the most recent survey to be released. In fact, it is the only poll to come after the announcement by Parish President Kevin Davis that he would not run for Congress.

In the survey, Mayor Morris showed extremely high name ID and positive awareness. His total name ID showed nearly 60% and he had positive negative ratio of five to one. In a head-to-head survey, Mayor Morris and Scalise are statistically tied with 22% and 27% respectively. State Representative Tim Burns trails significantly with 6% of the vote.
