ABOUT BEN

Ben Morris has been a hard worker all his life, starting with his first job as “umbrella boy” at Ponchartrain Beach at age 12.  He carried bananas and unloaded ships on the wharves of New Orleans.  Ben enjoyed the responsibility of being a lifeguard at the Audubon Pool and later Head Lifeguard at LSU.

Ben graduated from DeLaSalle High School in New Orleans and earned a bachelors degree from L.S.U. and a masters degree from U.S.M. and has done PHD coursework at U.N.O.

After LSU, Ben entered the service. After 32 years of regular and reserve duty Ben Morris retired as a full Colonel from the U.S. Army Reserves. As an Army officer he served in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt, Somalia, Europe and Panama and has circled the globe numerous times.  Ben studied three foreign languages:  German, Arabic and Mandarin Chinese and is a graduate of the Army Arabic Language School.

As a Federal Narcotics Agent for the Drug Enforcement Administration, Ben Morris has been on the front lines in the war on drugs.  He’s battled the destructive forces of drugs and drug crimes in our communities.  As an undercover agent, Ben was successful in getting massive amounts of heroin and cocaine off the streets of America.

In 1990 Ben Morris was elected the Slidell Chief of Police. He served as Chief for 12 years without a single challenge to the department’s integrity or honesty.  Under his leadership, the Slidell Police Department earned National Accreditation and established the Law Enforcement Training Academy to train other law enforcement agencies.

Ben and his wife Susie have been married for 32 years.  Susie is a travel agent and owns her own business in Slidell.  They have four children and 1 grandchild. Ben and Susie attend St. Margaret Mary church.

Ben is an avid hunter, collector of firearms and fisherman.
